View Full Version : Gout and Work

I am a regular sufferer of gout, seems to be genetic linked as my father suffers from it and my Gran has had arthritis all her life.

In recent years I have identified that if I eat a single kidney bean I will be suffering the following day. So have obviously cut them out of my diet. But I still have regular attacks over the year (usually managable as I am able to identify when an attack is coming and get on the meds early).

This year I have had 2 mild and one series attack but have managed them along with a bout of sickness to being just 9 days off work (I am a teacher). I have meetings with HR coming up where the outcome could end up being a written warning regarding my attendance to work and instructions to improve otherwise further steps will be taken. Does anyone have any positive experience or advice they can share with me (and I suppose others on here) that could help me and my employers come to a happy outcome. I am hoping to they will accept that gout attacks do not count against my days off anymore, anybody successfully achieved that?

Thanks in advance.
