Hello Everyone...
I'm an Asian Male, early 40's.
I will tell you from my personal experiences what works and what doesn't work.
First off, if you can try and keep a healthy weight. The slimmer you are, the less likely you are to have a gout attack. I notice that if I start gaining weight, I'm likely to have a gout attack.
I have had very painful episodes of gout, each time lasting longer and longer. It always seems to affect my big toe area or ankle, alternating on my right and left foot. And in each and ever toe during acute attacks.
If you've had a few attacks, you will begin to notice the signs of an attack - the area increasingly feels hot, tingly and increasingly hurts and swells over days. It affects load-bearing joints, so movement is excruciating. You are debilitated, and unable to walk and need to hobble around everywhere. IT HURTS, its no fun. Mysteriously, when the pain subsides, you are as good as new and can jump and hop around like nothing ever happened.
For me, over indulgence in bread or poultry, or Bran Cereral seems to trigger an attack.
I tried many many treatments and remedies. I have naturopathic pills "Organika Goutrin" on hand, as well as Nettle Leaf for making tea which I believe help.
Eating fruit "cherries" and strawberries in their natural form do not help at all.
I live in British Columbia. Cherry country. During a gout attack in the summer I had access to unlimited BING CHERRIES - deep, red and the size of plums. They were yummy indeed but i don't believe you can consume enough to make any kind of difference that affects your blood chemistry.
Baking Soda? In my opinion is complete BS! some people swear by it, but I don't believe you can drink enough of that to make a difference. It would probably cause more harm than good.
One thing is clear...you have to pee your gout attack out. You have to drink vast amounts of water. I've been drinking Nettle tea as well and this really does help. PEE PEE PEE it out.
OK HERE'S THE CURE THAT WORKED FOR ME:
Imagine this.... it's the festive season and Christmas season approaching. I had started to go to a few parties and had overconsumed and underexercised. I put on a few pounds and was eating a lot of the wrong things. I started to feel my big toe heating up and swelling.
Every step though not painful was noticable and my ankle as well was starting to hurt.
This was on the eve of a trip to an ALL INCLUSIVE MEXICAN RESORT i was going to.
I was scared. I imaged myself hobbling around unable to go anywhere the entire trip.
When I arrived, it was an ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet loaded with fruits, vegetables, seafoood, meats and dessert.
Here's what happened. I remembered that beets helped to cleanse your system, and in Mexico buffet scene there are everywhere. Shredded beets, cubed beets, beets with pineapples and drank tonnes of water.
I ate beets for breakfast, lunch and dinner and for snacks (beets with pineapples). I ate a normal amount of other foods too, but stayed away from poulty. I had beef and shelfish in modest quantities. I also ate or tried lots of desserts and cakes.
I ate an unusual amount of beets for 3 days. The resort also had a health juice bar where we had beet, pineapple and spinach smoothies. I consummed so much beet that that my urine had a red tinge to it that you could see red in the bowl.
The swelling and pain in my foot were immediately gone. This is the ONLY time i was able to stave off a GOUT ATTACK. :)
For those of you that have had Gout Attacks, you will know that it feels like you simply have to let it run its course. This is the first time I believed something I ate was able to affect my Gout Attack.
Right now, I'm boiling beets and drinking the red juice.
I encourage all of you sufferers to try eat an absurd amount of boiled Red Beets - drink the red juice, blend them in smoothies, eat them cubed with pineapple. If your pee starts to get red, eat some more.
As a gout sufferer who as experienced and tried many things, this worked for me. Please give it a try. :)))))
