My father a 75 yr old diabetic suffers from gout. He sits and eats peanuts everyday while watching TV and I have told him that is very bad for him. He also takes allopuril only when he has a flare up isn't he suppose to take all the time to prevent attacks? Could someone with experiences related to this please reply so i can print and show him. I am taking him to the ER today because of a bad flare-up.

Any of the maintenance medications are to be taken daily and they will help keep the attacks under control. He has got to take that medication. I know that from personal experience that peanuts can trigger an attack, they are very high in protein. Good luck to your Dad.

I get the same thing with cashew nuts
(although they are more oily than peanuts which surprised me)
