Hello, My husband has been battling gout for 10 years. Tried all the different medications, diets, herbal remedies, etc. with limited success. I am posting this because finally this past january, we've found something that has worked remarkably well for him. In addition to having gout, he has been trying to control his high cholesterol with statins. he has tried many statins, but he cannot take them. after a month or so either his muscles are too achy or the statins increase his gout attacks. He started taking an over the counter treatment called Cholest-Off. We thought it was just coincidence that after a couple of days his gout improved, but soon it disappeared completely. After two months he had his blood work done again and his cholestrol was still high, but his uric acid level was 5! In 10 years, it has always been over 8! We were amazed. In May, due to what we thought was a side effect of the allopurinol (persistent cough) his doctor took him off the allopurinol. It is now almost August and since he has been on the Cholest-Off in January, he has been gout free. HE is off the allopurinol which is a good thing to just not have to take a medication. His uric acid again was 5, when we had it tested last week. I am offering this out to others because I know how frustrating it is to try and get relief. I have no connection to product, other than we are so thankful this has worked for him. Perhaps this will help someone else. P.S. The cough went away after a dose of antibiotics. He had broncitis, which we think was unrelated to the allopurinol, but hey, one less drug to take :-) now we just have to find something to control his high cholesterol.

Great to hear. Will give it a look. So did the CholestOff help at all, with lowering his cholesterol at all ?

He hasn't had his cholesterol checked yet. But now it is November 2010 and he still has been gout attack free. He continues to make sure he stays very hydrated and tries to eat balanced meals, but he is still able to have a couple of beers about 4 times a week. I did some research on the Pine Bark, the ingredient in Cholest-off. Apparently it was used by native american indians to help arthritis.
For me, the cholest-off didn't help my cholesterol. I had been on crestor for about a year. I decided to give the cholest-off a try. my cholesterol was 147 in July 2010 when i went off the statin. 3 months later the number went up to 215. So I am not impressed with that for me. (I do not have gout). I have added red yeast rice to my daily regiment. If my number is still high in a month, I am off the pine bark and the rice and back on the statin :-D
Hope it works for you!

Wow, that's very interesting. I think I've seen this Choles-Off thing at CostCo. Do you know what the active ingredient is?
I would love some permanent relieve!

The main ingredients are plant sterols and stanols from pine trees. It is now December and in January 2011 it will be a year gout attack free for my husband. I did some research when he first started taking it and apparently Native American Indians used pine bark to treat arthritis. Cholestoff is an over the counter supplement and says on the label that it is not intended to cure any disease, but I guess that have to say that to protect themselves. We don't believe that this is a cure for gout, but has kept the attacks away.
He is going in the next couple of weeks to get his cholesterol checked and I will post his results, but we are not expecting it to help lower his cholesterol since it didnt seem to help mine.....but the jury is still out if it will actually work on what it was intended to do. He is so happy that he can drink a couple of beers again.

There is a new Supplement called Cleansitor that is totally based on over 40 fruit and vegetable extracts and it does lower the cholesterol level significantly after taking it for a month. I was surprised how well it works and have seen good results in other people as well. Their telephone # is (786) 350-4663 and they are located in Miami.
I prefer to try natural remedies and supplements if I can find them since most drugs do impact your liver significantly.
One other product I am taking on a daily bases is organic tart cherry juice, helps not only to reduce your uric acid level but also lowers your blood pressure and your cholesterol levels.
Best,
Jean-Paul
