Hello,
I am 24, female. Two weeks ago I woke up with a sore, stiff big toe. Within hours it was excruciating - I couldn't put my sock on, I couldn't cover it at night. As far as I am aware, I hadn't stubbed it, banged it, dropped anytthing on it etc etc...It became very swollen and deformed looking and a little bit red/purple (but not massively and there was no scab or anything.)
Anyway, the doctor took one look and diagnosed gout. Advised that I get a bloodtest immediately and an x ray to confirm no fracture. He prescribed indometacin 50mg to be taken 3 x per day and it took 4 days for these to enable me to walk reasonably well again. It took exactly one week for the blood test to be taken.
So, 2 weeks later from when it first occured: blood tests have come back 'normal'. What does this mean? He was so sure, that doctor. And gout seemed to fit the bill. I am not taking the indometacin anymore (i have run out) and I can walk around fairly normally outside - the pain is mild (sharp if i step heavily at the wrong angle) but it aches a lot if i walk around too long...
Anyway. The doctor was very worried because of my age and all round apparent good health (slim, dont drink, good diet etc...)
Is it possible to have gout and a normal blood test result? Was it a one off? Was it even gout? Any ideas anyone? Please!
Thanks, Charlie
