I know this may seem like a dumb question but I've tried to limit my protein intake and not eat foods high in purine, been eating a lot of fruits like cherries, strawberries, oranges and my gout attacks have subsided but I love eating white rice with my meals and I notice when I do eat a lot of rice, I'll notice some of my symptoms come back, is it just me, is it coincidence or is it just in me head?
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks

My food philosophy when it comes to gout is to avoid highly processed foods. White rice is highly processed. I eat a lot of brown rice now, even though I used to hate it. Believe it or not my diet has slowly evolved to the point that white rice doesn't even taste very good any more.
Try the brown, unprocessed rice or even some of the whole grain alternatives such as quinoa, or bulgar. You'll be surprise how quickly your tastes change...you might even learn to like the stuff!

I think Liverock is right - white rice is way too processed, all that's left is the carbohydrates which pretty much equates to sugar. There are too many links between Diabetes and Gout, the whole glucose and insulin thing create a lot of damaging acidity in the body overall. It may not be directly uric acid but an overly acidic body condition eventually makes it easy for gout to happen . . . that's my take. Stick with the fruits and veggies, high quality water, and smaller amounts of good clean, lean meats.

Thanks Liverock and bertmiddleton. I agree brown rice is much more healthier and not as highly processed as white rice, but it doesn't do it for me for some reason, I even tried to whole wheat pasta instead on white pasta and it tastes just too grainy for me. I find it to coarse, maybe its just me.
I do however, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables now which I notice helps a lot. I still do love my white rice.... :)

Wanted to mention I notice if I eat less Starchy Carbs, White Rice, White Bread, White Pasta, my gout symptoms are not as bad and I’m also not so tired all the time, coincidence ??? Not sure but trying my best to stay away from these types of non complex carbohydrates.

I think we are all similarly uncertain , I also eat lots of fruit , and my gout stays away . Come Xmas when I eat all sorts , it will be back , even though I will try and avoid hign purine foods !!
