I have had gout for 4 yrs., pain is always in my big toe. I was treated once with medicine, since then able to manage it. Pain or flare ups occur after eating shelfish, fish and drinking wine. I am able to manage my gout by diet. if I feel it coming on, no sea food, very little red meat and drink lots of water. Water seems to help a lot. A couple of weeks ago I had a fabulous sea food diner, paid the price. I drank lots of water, went away in 2 days.

I went hunting yesterday, a very hard walk and stepped in and stumbled on a lot of holes. That night, my ankle started to hurt. Busy day today, and as the day went on, ankle got worse. The pain is on the top of the angle and on the inside. The swelling is minimal and it is not hot. When i get gout in my toes, they turn red, swell and are hot. Not so in my ankle. My toes do not hurt at all.

Is it gout in my ankle?

Have you ever had gout move from 1 joint to another and was the pain symptoms different?

Yes, I have had a Gout attack migrate from the side of my foot into my ankle. Gout is very opportunistic, it is possible you mildly injured your ankle and Gout took advantage of the weakness and moved into the joint. Some of my most painful attacks have been in the ankle. I hope yours goes away quickly!

Thanks for the reply. I went to the doctor, he could not tell if it was a sprain and decided to treat them both, pills for the gout and a brace for the sprain. Woke up this am, ankle felt much better. Went to work, hurt like hell when I walked, great when I rested. I still don't know what it is. Feeling better, time to loose some weight and my habits.
