and that's a toothache. Especially 'cause gout meds are cheaper than a root canal & crown! So, I guess if I gotta have one of the 2, I'll take gout.

I like that and completely concur. I once had a major toothache hit me on Christmas Eve. That was not a fun Christmas Day for sure! Ended up costing me $1500 for a root canal and crown. And then the stupid thing kept falling out, so I ended up with a very expensive gap in my teeth!

I disagree ,, if the tooth is painfull you can always have it removed ,
you cant chop your toe off, Often wanted too :)

Gout pain is rated very high in my book, but I have had other pain as bad. Like my neck problem, (2 Disc ruptured) and the surgery after I woke up. Plus a nerve between my shoulders in the back had me bed ridden for three days. Also stepped on a 2x4 with 3 nails in it, drove them in very deep.

Well, after my last 2 gout attacks (last on this past Thurday) they may be equal.
You can have the tooth removed, but then you have a hole in your face.
Other problem is--you can take stuff to relieve a gout attack--nothing relieves a toothache other than a trip to the denti$t.

Nah, not even close - the pain worse than gout is:
Kidney stones!
The worst of all in my humble opinion (I speak from experience)

Never had kidney stones thank goodness, so I can't comment on that.
But your comment reminded me of something. My wife used to insist that childbirth was more painful than gout, and there was no way I could argue with that!
Until now... See this post on my blog where a woman who has given birth and has had gout states it there for all (including wives) to see ... http://curegoutpainnow.com/blog/general/gout-as-painful-as-giving-birth/

Whilst researching kidney stones I found many examples of women who testify that it is (much) worse than child birth. It is unbearable - I had to stand up for 2 whole days, sitting or lying down was just excruciating.

So us gouties should just stop whining and get on with it then! :)
Of course kidney stones are related to gout ... so anybody reading this.. beware!!!!

They CAN be related to gout, and that's what my doctor assumed. In that case the stones would have been made of uric acid, as it turned out they were calcium (the most common kind) so in my case they weren't related - I have just been doubly unlucky it seems.
Kidney stones tend to form in most people as they get older, but they only cause a problem if they cause an obstruction - this bloats the kidney and cause the pain. Mine was stuck in the lower portion of my ureter and I have just had ureteroscope to break up and remove the stone, I have a stent in place now and it's causing me almost as much pain as the original kidney stone, on top of that I have just been struck down with a double dose of gout in my left knee and left foot - I am totally fed up - I really am.

BTW, anyone silly enough to want supporting evidence for my assertion, read the experience of others here:
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-kidney-stone-stent.htm
and most of that is for the remedy!!

Well, never had stones, but I've heard they were pretty bad, so you might be right. But I HAVE had toothaches w/abcesses & they ain't fun. I hope I never have to experience a kidney stone, especially since that lady said they are much worse than childbirth.

Not even close. I've had emergency rout canal due to excruciating toothache pain but nothing I've ever had come minutely close to the gout pain I've suffered. Forget the big toe, try the elbow or the knee. Unbearable pain I wanted to cut off my leg. I'm I've been bed ridden a week now as its in my frigging knee imagine your knee inflamed with gout double the size of your other knee. The pills aren't working, left hospital in worse shape after they stuck me with needles in the sore joints. Toothache pain ya it kills but not even a tiny bit close to any gout attacks I've ever had. I'm 47 been suffering since 27.
Now I have to try n get back to sleep. I'm in agony and passed off now

And for the typos. I'm in bed with my leg propped up on a pillow using my iPhone. From mr. OUCH

Dear me, I have, and relatively recently, had all of these pains:
kidney stone
gout
tooth infection (not a cavity, something more insidious - waiting on tests)
all excruciating, but I would have to say kidney stone was the worst, but really all hell on earth, after a while you just take it for granted. Each one in turn takes days, weeks, months out of your life.
I think gout, in your preferred wrist, is probably the most debilitating.

Actually calcium stones and gout are related, both involve magnesium deficiency, which may be caused by hyperparathyroidism, ethanol, coffee or soda abuse, diuretics, extreme stress (PSD), etc,. When magnesium is low there is no soluble magnesium oxalate and insoluble calcium oxalate forms instead.
Both gout and calcium stones also involve acidic blood.
Some migraines are so extreme. long lasting and resistant to medication that they drive people to suicide. In contrast gout is the easiest disease to prevent and to treat. Please read what I wrote in the adjacent threads about blood donation to eliminate the excees iron and molybdenum, daily copper, magnesium and vit D intake, a diet rich in dairy, vegetables and fruits and brine baths to treat attacks rapidly and inexpensibly (if you have a bathtub).
