My previous gout attacks have lasted about a week, give or take a few days. Although not as painful as it was at the beginning, this attack has not subsided for over a month now. Movements in my sleep still aggravate it enough to wake me out of a sound sleep.
How long do your attacks last?

When I was getting bad gout I used to have it almost continuously for months at a time. Life sucked.
Usually a gout attack will start off only lasting a few days, but over time the attacks last longer and longer until the body can not recover in time before the next one starts.
If you are at the stage where it is basically happening full-time, my experience is that it is NOT going to go away unless you do something about it.
A doctor's visit might be in order my friend.

Thank you for the response, and the link. I am slowly learning more and more about this gout, by both the posts here and personal experience (the personal experience part really does suck!). The pain has all but gone now (been pretty good for the last week or so) along with the swelling, but there is still some soreness in the toe joint. I haven't taken any medication for about two weeks or so, glad of that. I did go to a doctor when it was so bad that I couldn't stay on my feet all day at work.
I am still concerned since the soreness is still there. On a pain scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 2, bearable, but still annoying, and no worse than the aches and pains of aging and previous injuries.
I have been monitoring my diet as of late.

Good on you for making changes to your diet so quickly. Many people go into denial and just hope it will go away. I made that mistake :(
Gout doesn't just go away!
Good luck!
