Here's the answer which of course you don't want to hear... "It depends"
Everyone is different. Some people claim that cherry juice has no effect. Others eat a handful of fresh cherries a day.
I suggest you experiment!

You can buy pure black cherry juice in the Health stores. I certainly seemed to help my husband's gout attacks at bay.

It isn't just cherries or cherry juice - *tart* cherries are supposed to be what actually helps. I've found tart cherry juice does help when I have a gout attack.
Longer term taking celery seed capsules seems to help as well.

goutigus - this fruit is low in calories, natural sugar and is a natural source of fiber, potassium and vitamin A, C, and E. It bring pain-relief to those who suffer from gout. :D

This cherry juice treatment or prevention at this time should be considered nonsense. There are no scientifically controlled data to suggest there is a relationship. When people get gout they start drinking cherry juice, the gout goes away, then they think it was the cherry juice.
there is no cause and effect.
Berries like cherries, blueberries, contain high levels of tanins that could inhibit the crystalisation uric acid. But I would suspect that your blood would need to have such a high
concentration of these tanins to create this effect, which is probably not feasible from a biochemical standpoint.

EATING CHERRIES? or drinking cherry juice? no. You couldn't possibly eat enough to help your condition.
I live in British Columbia - I have drank and eaten a MOUNTAIN of fresh cherries. All varieties to no immediate effect.
Now..Cherry extract in pill form where the good stuff is extracted and concentrated does seem to help over a period of time. I'm not sure if it was me drinking gallons of water and flushing myself out or not.
Here's what I found works for me. Fresh RED BEETS - boiled. I ate an obscene amount of red beets for breakfast, lunch and dinner and drank beet smoothies until my pee turned slightly red.
As a long time gout sufferer, this reversed an oncoming attack immediately. I have never experience a turnaround like that.

Don't confuse folklore type remedies with an actual cure.
There are lots of wacky ones out there. I tried baking soda, cherry juice, cherries, strawberries, pineapples - sometimes you have to have to ride an attack out.
BUT - I'm excited to share with everyone, that consuming fresh boiled RED BEETS in VAST QUANTITIES - I think at least 1-2 large beets per meal for 2 days straight and drinking tonnes of water - immediately reversed my gout attack and set my feet completely pain free.
