I just wanted to know how the excess uric acid in my foot is excreted - if im using colchicine and then allopurinol in 4-6 weeks ? I know allopurinol PREVENTS uric acid from being formed, but how is the existing uric acid in my foot removed ?

Im glad this forum exists, thanks guys.

Once your uric acid levels drop again, it makes it possible for the urate crystals to become dissolved in the bloodstream.

It was because of the high concentrations that the crystals formed, and the lower concentration will allow them to dissolve again. Once back in the blood the uric acid is dealt with normally.

"Dealt with normally" usually means, eventually, your urine passes most toxins out of your body, that's why it's important to drink as much water as you can without getting yourself sick. I just got over a gout attack in less than two days, with only one day of peak crippling pain, and I can say for sure the difference is deliberate pounding down of water - a half liter bottle every two hours did not feel like I was going to float away. My urine was an usual vivid color, in part from the release of the toxins and probably in poart from the dried cherries I kept at hand for steady nibbling.

Also, I'm sure Allopurinal helps in prevention, but an eye toward increased hydration in general helps more than it's given credit for, as well as attention to previously ignored diet issues.

My rheumatologist explained to me that you have to start with colchicine for a few weeks and then start maintenance meds. It can take 1 to 2 years on colchicine before your body rids itself of uric crystals. He said it is easy to get your blood levels under control but very hard to get out of your joints......
