Colchicine is a life saver and I have had very good luck with it. Just this last week I had to switch to colcrys due to the FDA pulling colchicine off the market. The colcrys seems to not work as well as colchicine. Has anyone else noticed this?
Also you can print a coupon at colcrys.com and you get 7 pills free and $75 savings on presciption.

I would agree. Just used it and don't feel like it worked nearly as well. I have stopped taking it because I don't want to overuse this drug. The origianl Colchicine seemed to work almost overnight . This new drug didn't seem to work much at all.

I'll be damned if I'll pay the kind of $$ they're asking for Colcrys. Colchicine doesn't work quick enough for me;I gotta use Indocin or Prednisone.

After years of fighting pain and taking shots in my knees I finally decided to go to a rheumatologist. This was the best thing I had ever done and can not believe I went so long in pain. My rheumatologists told me that colchicine was to remove the acid in joints etc and keep away flare ups. He said it is easy to get your blood under control but very hard to rid your body of excess uric crystals in your body. He said after a year to 2 years of taking colchicine it should get rid of the excess and I would be able to discontinue colchicine and take alenpurinol to control uric acid in blood. So the good news is this should not be a long term problem.

Cholchicine was the best med on the market. One to two pills and the horrific gout pain was gone. Now, they come up with this drug called Colcrys to replace it and it DOES NOT WORK! This is my fourth day with terrible gout pain in my shoulder. I never heard of gout in someones shoulder before but that is exactly what it is; it can happen in any joint. I went to bed feeling wonderful only to wake up feeling like I had been in a bad car crash. With Cholchicine I could take more than 1 pill per day but not with Colcrys. I'm also on Allopurinol twice per day. I've tried cherry juice and it didn't help. My first onset of gout was to my ankle. I attempted to get out of bed in the morning and couldn't put my foot to the floor. I thought my ankle was broken. Went to the emergency room and by that night after taking cholchicine the pain was almost resolved. I have one kidney so I have to be very careful on what I take. I think I will take some Vitamin C and maybe try the JUS antioxidant and see what takes place. I'm supposed to be on a weeks vacation and have not been able to do anything due to the pain.

Hi Amelia,
Because your gout flares usually originate during sleep, the underlying cause is probably sleep apnea, which is the frequent cessation of breathing for many seconds at a time during sleep. The resulting reduction in oxygen in your blood has several effects which can cause a gout flare, and over the long term can greatly increase your risk for the development of many life-threatening diseases. Instead of focusing on a pharmaceutical product for quick suppression of your gout pain, focus on preventing new overnight gout flares and improving your overall health by insisting on an overnight test for sleep apnea and following whatever treatment is recommended to overcome it.
