If you have or think you have gout. Go to a rheumatoligist and get treated correctly. Most regular doctors do not know how to treat gout correctly. If your doctor puts you on alenpurinal you will suffer from gout attacks. Prior to placing you on alenpurinal you have to take colchicine for about two to three weeks and continue taking both alenpurinal and colchicine together until crystals are out of your joints. My rheumatoligist told me that getting uric acid levels in your blood corrected is easy. Getting excess uric acid crystals out of your body is not so easy and again this can take up to 1 to 2 years. If you do this you should not have any attacks god willing.... I was stupid and put off going to see a rheumatoligist and went through years of attacks and pain.
