I have a friend that i have been taking care of for a couple years with chronic kidney failure, dialysis treatments, and several other medical conditions, including hypoparathyroidism, and what is thought to be metabolic bone disease, however after over 2 years of advancement of the disease, suffering with extreame joint pain, large deposits of something (supposed calcium and phosphurous) from various joints and tissues, and muscular atrophy in some severly effected areas, a doctor at the center looks at all of the deposits, mostly the hands, and state he thinks allot of it may be severe gout, and that the leading medication could make it go away. We still have not yet discussed this possiblity with md, and would like to, and maybe try tx becasue if even some of it could be gout, relieving any of the severe pain is going through 24 hours a day would be helpful, but the question is, how bad could gout really get? It it went untreated for years, in a person, with almost no kidney function, or much ability to excrete the uric acid with his own organs, how bad could it get? Could it destroy joints and muscles and cause deposits everywhere even some as large as baseballs? Has anyone ever herd or a gout case gone untreated for that long?
