Hi All..

Just joined up today..
My name Terry I am 38 years onld and work on the Railway.
At present i am off work, as i have an acute attack of Gout in my right ankle/ Toe..
Its been niggling me for a few weeks.
I suspect having a sausauge on sunday morning over breakfast started it off..
Ive been taking diclofenic, for the last 6 day, (3 a day)..
Ive now run out so taking Nurofen..
Today i took the plung and brought a bottle of Honegar from the health shop, took my 1st spoon full with a glass of water about 1pm today..
At 5pm i brought a vitamin c Supplement 1000mg tablets, now im in so much pain i can hardly walk without the aid of crutches..
Im very carefull with what i eat..
The things i avoid the most are red meat, Prawns any shelfish, Jams, Graveys, and Fructose..
The worst attack of gout i have ever had i was on crutches for 4 weeks and couuld'nt put my foot on the floor..
This has to be one of the worst attacks i have ever had, and this is the 1st time i have had it in my ankle and the pain shoots up the back of my lower leg, it like ive done my achillies tendons in...
If my gout continues like this for much more i can see my self out of a job soon.
Ive been suffering with gout for 8 years and the older i get the worse its getting...
My work has just refered my to bupa, who reports i am covered by the DDA and the equality act 2010...(This is for people who have a re-occuring illness over 12 months).
They have even registered me disabled..
If any one can help, with a long term solution i would love to here from you..
Ps ive tried a few tablets on the market, some made me sick, some made me like a zombie, and one put me on crutches this was Allapurinol..

All The Best

Terry

Hi Terry. It sounds like you are having a really bad time with your gout. I find it hard to believe that one sausage at breakfast could have "caused" your gout, but it may have tipped you over the edge. While you have listed the things you avoid eating, it might be useful to get an idea of what you are eating. The foods you list have a bit of a bad reputation when it comes to gout, but I think you need to take a look at the diet you are eating. Have you heard the theory about how you should have an alkaline diet if you want to avoid gout (and other diseases). This might be something that you want to explore.

I'd like to learn more about how Allopurinol put you on crutches. I had no problems with it at all when I took it (briefly)

Cheers
Brett
