Gout in Hips?
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with gout in the hips? What were the initial symptoms? What joint specifically and what treatment was effective?
I'm 29 yrs old and had my first gout attack 8 months ago in my big toe. Since then I've had 5 attacks in the toe that got progressively worse. Well, about 4 months ago I started having severe, debilitating lower back spasms intermittently. Since then my back spasms have gotten worse and I have constant pain in my lower back, hips, and butt now. I've had an MRI, CAT scan, X-rays. All come back normal so I'm wondering if somehow, someway my gout could be causing this pain? My rhuemotologist sais no, but it seems very coincidental. I went from being an active surfer and swimmer to knocked on my ass in a matter of a few days.
Walking is painful. Sitting for more than 15min is brutal. My back is incredibly stiff and I can't bend forward at the waist anymore without extreme pain. Standing up from the couch or sitting up in bed is pretty much impossible without rolling over or using my arms to help get up.
I just started Allupurinol 5 days so I'm hoping if this is gout it will kick in eventually? How long does it typically take Allupurinol to become effective? weeks? months?
