Default Anyone try Baking Soda or Apple Cider Vinegar?

I read on other websites that people have actually been eating baking soda to treat their GOUT. Isn't that stuff used to clean toilets and kill rats and cockroaches? So the daring side of me was in so much pain last week that I said F UCK IT! I found some baking soda in the cupboard, who knows how f ucking old it is, then mixed a teaspoon with some juice and down the hatch. a few hours later and all through the night, my stomach was bloated and felt like exploding. I was thinking to myself, "nice job stupid" not only is my ankle hurting, but now I have added another complication.

OK Apple cider vinegar. Bought some. Downed 2 shots like a man. ROUGH. tastes like poison. I have never in my life DRANK vinegar, and it just burned all the way down. I think it did help after 4 hours, but didn't continue as my wife freaked out that I was trying this stuff I learned from the internet and actually called poison control.

Any other horror stories?

Stay away from that man! Cherry Juice and water! Baking soda is high in sodium and can dehydrate you. Apple cider vinegar is a myth. Don't be suckered!

Default BiCarbonate of Soda

I live by Baking soda (Or Bicarbonate of Soda which is very similar). It is used in cakes and scones etc. and is quite natural (not a poison). When I get an indication that an episode is coming on I take Bromelain tablets (pineapple extract bought from Boots) and half a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda in water three times a day. You have to be careful though as the high Sodium is danegerous if you have quite high blood pressure so check with your doctor first. I also keep cherry concentrate in the house to make juice. Drinking lots of water is also important to flush the Uric Acid out...

Default Gout ultimate remedy

Been a gout sufferer for approx. 30 years now. Tried different medications but they only work temporarily. Body responds differently to food. The food that triggers your gout may not be the case for others. So observe how food reacts on your body.

Thank God for the natural cure that was revealed to me by two of my friends. Friend1 advised me to squeezed half lemon into a 1.5 liter of water and slowly drink it during the day. Took me two years to listen. It worked welll, it helps flush the uric acid in addition to the many benefits lemon gives in the body.

Friend2 (this is amazing when you have an attack) told me to grate a handful of ginger and put it in a pitcher of water, leave it for 24 hours then filter it with a strainer and keep in the fridge. Drink 1 glass in the morning and 1 glass in evening. NO MORE URIC ACID! NO MORE SWELING! NO MORE PAIN!

These two drinks are now a part of my life.

Please post this to other gout-websites that you know. It's a gift from God that must be shared for free to everyone. Be blessed always.....

Baking Soda:

After years of gout attacks, I followed advice from another gout sufferer and baking worked (so far) for me. It alkalizes the system.

I take 1/2 teaspoon of Arm & Hammer (even, not heaping) and put it in a glass, and fill the glass with 4-5 ounces of water, and stir it enough to dissolve it.

I do this immediately in the AM, when I wake up, and right before bed.

It does contain sodium, so it's advisable to not add salt to what you eat during the day.

It may work for you; it may not. Give it a try.

As for Apple Cider Vinegar put a tablespoon in 20 ounces, more or less to dilute it. One time, I swear it worked. ACV is very cheap and it's worth a try.

I will always use baking soda, from now on.

@benale - Yes! "Alkalize" is the key word, my hero!

I'm continually amazed that everybody keeps saying "I've got too much uric acid" . . . duh! What's the opposite of Acidic? What causes Acid Waste to build up? There are all sorts of other Acidic Wastes that are slowly killing us too, not just Uric Acid. Did you know that Gout is the second best indicator of whether or not a guy will develop Heart Disease and Diabetes? What's the technical term for obesity? Or, hey . . . go see your doc and he can sell you another pill.

Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with the juice of one lemon and drink that every four hours for only one 24 hour period . . . a fast way to ALKALIZE your body chemistry. Soak the Gout Attack area in Espsom Salts.

Then stop eating trash, drinking like a fool, and realize you create your own stress . . . which by the way is a big source of Acid Waste Build-up . . . ever heard of a powerful chemical called "Adrenaline"?

^ Thank you Bermiddlton.

I'll try the teaspoon of baking soda with lemon water every 4 hours for 24 hours.

Freshly squeezed lemon juice is metabolized by the body as alkaline. Something I just learned.

Thanks for the info.

nah, apple cider vinegar is to make your body more alkaline. If it helps gout great, if not, being alkaline is an important part of having your body in balance. I could go on and on about western medicine vs traditional medicine and Chi and all sorts of great stuff, pointless tho, apple cider vinegar cured a man i have known well of Chrones disease, he hasn't been sick in 3 years since he was treated using that stuff and lots of pro-biotics. Our bodies are incredible and sometimes can give us a disease simply for protections sake. I didn't believe it at first, but a lady i was seeing told me one day, you have really bad gout because your body needs it. What? i was sure i didn't need gout. Well i was in the army, and my step dad had gotten diagnosed with cancer and my mother was all alone and i was about to go off to war. Strange how i amazingly got gout 2 weeks before my deployment, and then it faded only to return again when i had major anxieties, i got involved with pain medication and addicted and my gout kept coming back, and it was my main and only excuse to re-up on my pain meds every week or so o.0. 4 or 5 years later when i decided life sucked enough i stopped all these things, and yes i do have gout, but i went from 3-4 attacks a month (literally all month every month i was on crutches) to maybe one attack every 2 months that goes away in a day with colchacine. I believe our minds have alot to do with the severity and sometimes even coming down with something period. Look at alternative medicines, try everything around and look at stress factors in your life. I have little problem with gout nowadays, but severe problems with the joint stiffness it left me with, in fact if the joint stiffness doesn't go away, the one activity that has kept me sane and clean for the last LONG TIME, might start to slip from my grasp throwing me back in self medicating hell.

@chuninabun YES, YES and YES! My Brother! I've decided that keeping us distracted by "high purine food" sells a lot of Allopurinol and Colchicine. Adrenaline and Cortisol does a lot more for acidifying our systems than a lot of our food does. The more we stress ourselves the more heavy-duty chemicals our bodies produce. Google up Bruce Lipton and get the low-down how our very perceptions of the world change our gene activity, it takes the whole metabolic conversation to a different level. Eat Well, Live Clean, Stay Calm = No Gout!
